Before hospitality, I spent six seasons as a federal wildland firefighter: five on a Northern California crew that became a hotshot crew, and one on a helicopter crew in Durango, Colorado. That work taught me to stay calm under pressure, put the team first, and lead when timing is tight and the stakes are real.

My first mentor in this business had just bought a bed and breakfast in Manitou Springs, Colorado. He asked me, “Do you want to learn how to play this game?” I said yes. That’s where I learned the core of hospitality: the sacred duty of host to guest.

Three more sets of mentors followed. Two of them were Army Special Forces soldiers, and many of the owners we worked for were deployed overseas for months at a time. We had to build systems that ran without the owner at all. Then I started my own companies in Colorado Springs, where I still run homes today.

Seven years in, I look at the whole picture: what helps a property perform, what protects the home, what keeps risk down, and whether every guest is looked after.

What matters to me is helping a home perform without losing what makes it worth caring about, and making sure the owner who trusted me with it feels that trust was well placed.

After becoming a father, I moved back home and started Palisade Stays for owners here who want someone with real reps looking after their home and their guests.
